Dear Lebanese Citizen

You say my streets are dirty, but never miss a chance to throw your trash in my face.
You say I am corrupt, yet jump at the first opportunity of making a quick buck at my expense.
You say my roads need fixing, yet always seem to ignore their signs and drive in the opposite direction.
You say I am loud and noisy, yet you smother me with your horns and vulgar bike noises.

You say I am too crowded, yet overbear me with your useless shops.
You say I am visually off-putting, yet you suffocate me with your billboards and your so-called art.
You say I am polluted yet bask me in an enormous quantity of cheap smoke.
You say I am waste filled, yet you created most of it.

You say you are proud of where you come from, yet jump at a chance to boast about your other nationality.
You say we can work together, yet never seem to apply your talent for my betterment.
You say I am all encompassing, but secretly hope that I will kick out all those who are different and unlike you.
You say you want to help me prosper, but never seem to invest any of your money for my advancement.
You say I am the most beautiful place you’ve ever seen, yet you’ve never bothered visiting my unfamiliar areas.

You say you can’t wait to get away from me, but as soon as you do, you start missing me, listening to my music and eating food that reminds you of me.

You say I’m one of a kind, one in a million, yet dream to be anywhere else but here.

You say it’s all my fault, that you tried to make me better but then you gave up. You don’t believe in me anymore and I am a hopeless case. You end up leaving me and you promise and swear you will never return, only to find an excuse to come back to me

Deep inside, we are stuck with each other, I tolerate you as much as you tolerate me.

I see your flaws and accept you nevertheless. Instead of missing me when I’m gone, how about you love me while I am here?
